What Is A Mulching Mower

What Are Mulching Mowers?

We all know what a lawnmower is but within that type of garden machinery there are several varieties of lawnmower types and the mulching mower is one variation of lawn cutting equipment.

A regular lawnmower cuts the grass and the grass cuttings are ejected from the side or rear of the lawn mower and either collected in a grass-box or bag which then requires frequent grass collector emptying into rubbish bags or onto a compost heap or an unsightly garden waste heap.

An alternative way of dealing with the cut grass is to let it be deposited on the ground where it can look rather unsightly because it is usually in a strip running alongside or behind the lawnmower and it can take ages to dry, decompose and eventually disappear from view.

The mulching mower is designed to solve these problems by chopping the grass clippings finely and spreading them out across the grass as you cut the lawn. Thanks to the small size of the grass clippings and the fact that they are spread fairly evenly across the lawn they quickly dry in the sun.  They shrivel and disappear from view very quickly avoiding the need for a grassbox which can help reduce the cost of manufacturing the mulching mower making them cheaper to purchase than a regular mower.

Benefits Of A Mulching Mower

There are clear  benefits of a mulching mower and they can save you a great deal of time spent walking backwards and forwards to empty a grass box and dispose of the collected grass cuttings. The downside is that when first cut the lawn may look a little untidy for a short while but the sun soon drys out the clippings and the time saved can be considerable.

If you are one of those gardeners who likes a striped lawn then mulching mowers are probably not for you but if you want to get the job done quickly, mulching mowers are a superb piece of grasscutting equipment.
